Description:

Real Club Celta de Vigo was created on March 28, 1923 by the merger of rival clubs Real Vigo Sporting and Real Club Fortuna de Vigo with the aim of having one Vigo club who could compete at a national level. Celta is a reference to Galicia's Celtic heritage, Vigo being one of the two principal cities of the Galician region of northwest Spain. It also shows in their nickname CeltiГ±as - The Little Celts. Meanwhile Celestes translates as The Sky Blue. The sky blue color is seen in the flag of Galicia. Celta Vigo's emblem includes the crown of royal patronage as well as the cross of St James, representing the Order of St James which led the Reconquista of Spain in Galicia. Celta Vigo contest the Galician Derby with arch-rivals Deportivo La CoruГ±a. The CeltiГ±as have reached the Copa del Rey final three times but have yet to win a major trophy.
