Description:

Alavés means "from Alava", Alava being one of the Spanish provinces that make up the Basque Country. Vitoria is the capital of Alava and is known as Gasteiz in the Basque language. The full name of the club, Deportivo Alavés, translates into English as Alava Sports. Alavés reached the UEFA Cup final in 2001, losing an epic match 5-4 to Liverpool. In 2007 Alavés launched an American affiliate, the California Victory in San Francisco in the USL First Division, the 2nd tier of soccer in the States. However they withdrew financial support during the season and the club folded after just one year.

Estadio Mendizorroza:

The Mendizorroza stadium was built in 1924 and is based in the Mendizorroza neighborhood of Vitoria.
