AlmerÃa Club de Fútbol began life in 1989. A great number of clubs had come and gone in the city over the years, most importantly Agrupación Deportiva AlmerÃa who existed from 1971-82. AlmerÃa CF absorbed Club Polideportivo AlmerÃa in 2001 and changed names to the present Unión Deportiva AlmerÃa - AlmerÃa Sports Union.
The club's emblem incorporates the official name, colors, old-style football and most importantly, the indalo. The indalo is a magical symbol found in prehistoric caves near AlmerÃa. It is often painted on the doors of houses and buildings in the area to ward off evil. It is the official symbol of the province of AlmerÃa.
