Both its names (Necaxa & Rayos)reflect its earliest sponsers, the power company and the Mexican Electrician's Union. "Necaxa" is the name of a river on the Puebla - Vera Cruz border where the first ever hydro electric dam was built in Mexico over 80 years ago.

Sadly after its revival in the 80s and a very proud and successfull number of years, Necaxa fell on hard times and was relegated from the Premier Division after the Spring season this year. It is now very hard to get data on what is happening with them.

If anyone knows a good website or souce of current data about the team, I would much appreciate it. I have been a fan since their first run for Чемпионат in 1994.

Thanks for the great post Don. I found a couple of blogs that seem to be regularly updated. http://necaxa.blogspot.com/ http://necaxaaltovoltaje.blogspot.com/ The official website seems to be updated pretty often also. Of course these are all in Spanish. I didn't see much English language info though.
