Description:

Blackpool Football Cub was formed on July 26, 1887 by breakaway members of St. John's FC who wanted a football club named after the city of Blackpool. St. John's itself had been formed out of the old Victoria FC. The club's first decade was spent in the Lancashire League before joining the Football League for the 1896-97 season. Blackpool failed re-election to the League in 1899 and later that year merged with South Shore FC and moved to that club's stadium.

After one season back in the Lancashire League they were re-elected to the Football League for the 1900-01 season. Blackpool adopted their famous "tangerine" shirt on the suggestion of referee Albert Hargreaves, who was impressed by the similarly-colored Dutch national team shirt. Matches with arch-rival Preston North End are known as the West Lancashire Derby. Blackpool's lone major trophy, the 1953 FA Cup, was won in one of that tournament's most famous finals, "the Matthews Final", when the legendary Stanley Matthews led Blackpool back from 3-1 to win 4-3 in injury time. The Seasiders nickname is a reference to Blackpool's coastal location, while the Tangerines references their shirts. The club's emblem is that of the city of Blackpool.

Bloomfield Road:

The stadium is located on Bloomfield Road in Blackpool and was originally known as Gamble's Field.

Previous Stadiums: Raikes Hall Gardens (1888-98), Stanley Park Athletic Grounds (1898-99), Raikes Hall Gardens (1900).

Have watched your season progress with some great results. I look forward to seeing you play at the Stadium of Light next season. Although I support Sunderland, in my youth I heard many tales of the famous Blackpool side of Matthews, Mortensen, Jock Dodds and the Manager Joe Smith from my uncle George Farrow who was club captain and wing half in the pre-war era.

Congratulations I am sure this is your year.

All the best
Geoffrey Farrow
