FГєtbol is pronounced fuut-bowl. The game is occasionally referred to as balompie, which literally translates to foot ball. Mexico has had a professional league since 1943, and has played two championships per year since 1996. There is currently no overall winner, instead two trophies are awarded each year. There is no longer a cup competition in Mexico, although one was played sporadically until 1997. The national team is called El Tri a reference to the tri-color national colors of red, green and white. The two giants of Mexican soccer are Chivas and AmГ©rica, and their derby is called the Superclasico.

  • Gold Cup (1993, 96, 98, 2003, 09)
