Description:

The second tier of Spanish football is officially known as the Liga Adelante as part of an agreement with title sponsors BBVA, a Spanish bank. It is technically part of the Liga de FГєtbol Profesional which incorporates the top two divisions of Spanish football.

League Format:

• The Spanish Сегунда Дивизион season begins in August and ends in May with a very short winter break.
• The 22 teams play each other twice (home and away) for a total of 42 matches.
• 3 points are awarded for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss.
• Final league position is based on the total number of points earned over the full season.
• The team with the most points is considered the league champion.
• The top 3 teams are promoted to the first-tier Primera DivisiГіn.
• The bottom 4 teams are relegated to the third-tier Сегунда Дивизион B.
