Rangers are one half of the Old Firm duopoly that has dominated Scottish football since the launch of the Scottish Football League and have won more league titles than any other club in the world. Rangers, named after an English rugby team, have traditionally drawn their support from the Protestant half of Glasgow, of Scotland and of Ireland, where both Glasgwegian giants claim a significant fan base. Rangers support also tends to be staunchly Unionist in their political viewpoint, supporting Scotland's position within the United Kingdom and opposed to Scottish independence. With such heavy religious and political overtones, matches between Ranger and arch-rivals Celtic can become as heated as you can imagine. But at the end of the day its Rangers record of success on the pitch that means most.

Ibrox Park:

Glasgow Rangers play at Ibrox Stadium, located in the Ibrox neighborhood on the west side of Glasgow. They have played there since 1899 though the stadium has been comprehensively redeveloped several times since.

The Glasgow Rangers emblem features the lion rampant, a traditional symbol of Scotland, and the club motto "Ready". The "Ready" motto evolved from "Aye Ready", before that "Ready, Aye Ready" and before that "Aye, Work Awa".

Alternate Logos:

The traditional logo below, with overlapping RFC (Rangers Football Club) is the most well-known of Rangers images and will be worn on the jerseys for the 2009-10 season. The five stars above the logo represent the 50+ league titles Rangers have won over the years.

Nicknames:

Although more often than not just called Rangers, the blue half of Glasgow sometimes do go by other names.

• The 'Gers just being a shortening of Ренжеры
• The Teddy Bears nickname is said to have come from it sounding like 'Gers' if you have a broad Glaswegian accent.
• The Light Blues and Light and Speedy Blues both refer to the club's shirt colors.

Rival:

Glasgow Rangers have only one true rival - their fellow Glaswegians Celtic. The pair of clubs are collectively known as the Old Firm and matches between their are fiercely contested and loaded with symbolism. Rangers support is traditionally Protestant and Unionist while Celtic are traditionally Catholic and anti-Unionist. The two clubs have played nearly 400 matches in their long history, with Rangers having a slight edge in the all-time series record.
