Витория Сальвадор were founded on May 13, 1899. The initial name was Club de Cricket Victoria. The club's first football match wasn't played until 1901 though this still marks them out as one of the oldest football clubs in Brazil. VitГіria means victory in Portuguese. They are referred to here as Витория Сальвадор to distinguish themselves from VitГіria SetГєbal and VitГіria GuimarГЈes among others. Within Brazil they're normally known simply as VitГіria or maybe EC VitГіria. The nickname LeГЈo da Barra means Lion of the Barra. Rubro-Negro means The Red and Black. Matches with arch-rival Bahia are called the Ba-Vi ClГЎssico, the big derby in Bahia. Like many clubs in Brazil, VitГіria are a multi-sports club, also featuring basketball, volleyball and futsal teams among others.
